What is an ovarian cyst?
If you have been through a fertility test, you have probably heard about cysts. What about pain from cysts ? In fact, cysts, fibroids and endometriosis affect women the most when it comes to fertility. Cysts are fluid-filled sacs that grow on ovaries. They are usually benign and of two types: functional and organic.
Functional cysts are the most frequent type. They appear between puberty and menopause. They relate to menstrual cycles and overall functions of ovaries. However, they are natural, not dangerous, and clear off naturally in less than two months.
When cysts persist more than 3 months they are considered organic. Passed that period, they should be investigated as soon as possible. They are frequent with women using progestin-only contraceptives. Organic ovarian cysts, are also benign in most cases but cancerous when they reach a certain height. They are classified into four categories as well: dermoid, serous, mucosal, and endometriomas (relate to endometriosis and contain blood).

Ovarian cysts occur anytime before menopause but organic cysts tend to appear more at menopause. Contraceptives like microdosed pills are mainly at their origin.
